Large super sports model “CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE” and “CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP” with newly designed water cooling, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line 4-cylinder, 999cc engine, etc. will be released by Honda Dream on March 20th (Friday) 2020.

The Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade carries the legendary aerodynamic and aggressive design of Honda’s supersport motorcycles, and brings a new level of performance to the most powerful 4-cylinder engine with the same configuration as the Honda RC213V. All the features applied to this model are based on the engine and chassis technology that supports the sensation of driving on the circuit.

The Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade has an aggressive design with minimal frontal area to increase aerodynamics. Almost all parts are created to get maximum downforce when accelerating, braking and maneuvering.

The DNA of racing motorbikes is also reflected in the application of Air-ram Duct (air holes) at the front which circulates fresh air directly to the airbox. The fuel tank cover is designed so that the driver can get the most ideal position to reduce wind resistance.

Performance Boost

Of course it’s not just design, the main advantage of the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade is performance. To maintain high power performance balanced with ease of handling, this model was developed with various changes.

The 999.9 cc DOHC 4-cylinder inline engine has experienced many improvements compared to the previous generation. This engine configuration is exactly the same as the RC213V (bore x stroke: 81 mm x 48.5 mm). Maximum power increases to 160 kW @14,500 rpm (previously 141 kW), and maximum torque reaches 113 Nm @ 12,500 rpm.

Pistons are now made of forged aluminum (Forged Aluminum). Now, each of these components (4 pieces) is 5 percent lighter in weight than the previous model, while increasing its strength and durability.

Another detail, the camshaft is given a special coating called Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) to reduce friction by 35 percent when compared to the same component without the DLC coating. Connecting rods (konrod) using titanium material, so this part of the weight is reduced by 50 percent.

The new technology in this superbike is the Built-in Bottom Bypass, a cooling water circulation system that flows directly from the radiator right to the main component “water jacket”. Then, there is the New Multi-point Piston Jet, a technology that is able to spray cooling lubricant on the piston from various directions. Its job is to maintain the piston temperature and reduce excess friction.

The Honda CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE inherits the theme “Total Control-Maximizing the enjoyment of maneuvering” that has been consistently pursued from the first model “CBR900RR” released in 1992, while further improving the performance in circuit driving and racing. With the aim of fully demonstrating its use in the field, the development concept was “Total Control for the Track-a machine that demonstrates its true potential in the circuit”, and a power unit with high output and more controllable output characteristics and maneuvering It is the top model of the CBR series that combines the body packaging that pursues sex and adopts advanced electronic control technology that supports sports riding.

The CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP is based on the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE and is equipped with an electronically controlled suspension manufactured by ÖHLINS and a front brake caliper manufactured by BREMBO. In addition, it has special specifications with a view to more enjoyment of sports riding, such as the adoption of a lithium-ion battery that contributes to weight reduction and the standard equipment of a quick shifter that enables quicker shift change operation.

2020 Honda CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE (2BL-SC82) Features

The Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade is the best supersport motorcycle for the Honda CBR series which is designed with performance and features that have never been seen before for a motorcycle that is ready to be ridden on the road and on the circuit.

A power unit with high output and more controllable output characteristics that feeds back the technology of “RC213V”

Equipped with a newly designed water-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 4-valve in-line 4-cylinder 999cc engine. With the same cylinder inner diameter and stroke as Honda’s racing machine “RC213V”, which is demonstrating high performance in racing, a large diameter valve is used and a short stroke is realized with the aim of reducing friction. DLC (Diamond-like Carbon), which has excellent low friction and contributes to high rotation, is used for finger follower rocker arms and camshafts, in addition to thorough weight reduction of each part such as high-strength aluminum forged pistons and titanium connecting rods. The surface is treated by coating. A semi-cam gear train system that can shorten the cam chain length is used for the cam drive mechanism, contributing to weight reduction and high rotation. In the intake/exhaust system, the inner diameter of the throttle body has been made larger than that of the conventional model, and the intake passage from the opening of the ram air duct system provided at the tip of the upper cowl to the intake port and the cross section from the exhaust port to the mouth of the exhaust pipe. We are trying to improve the intake and exhaust efficiency by changing the shape smoothly. In addition, the titanium muffler, which contributes to weight reduction and mass concentration, is being jointly developed with AKRAPOVIĆ, which has a wealth of experience in racing.

Body packaging that pursues maneuverability on the circuit

A newly designed lightweight aluminum diamond frame that uses a thin-walled GDC (gravity mold casting) manufacturing method that enables highly accurate rigidity tuning. The rear suspension has a pro-link and the upper part is fastened to the rear of the engine block, which contributes to the optimization of frame rigidity and weight reduction. The aluminum press swing arm is designed to be 30.5mm longer than the conventional model, and by optimizing the rigidity balance and making it the same weight as the conventional model, we are pursuing better ground contact of the rear tire and excellent turning performance. In addition, the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP is equipped with an electronically controlled suspension manufactured by ÖHLINS and a front brake caliper manufactured by BREMBO, which controls the damping force according to the driving conditions and provides optimum characteristics.

Full LED headlights are getting sharper to emphasize the futuristic impression. There are winglets derived from the Honda RC213V to increase downforce, keep the motorcycle stable when accelerating, or go fast when exiting corners.

Various electronic control functions that support sports riding

A BOSCH 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) is used for the vehicle body attitude control system. Compared to the conventional model, the estimation accuracy of the vehicle body posture has been further improved. The riding modes that can be installed by TBW (throttle by wire system) that controls the opening of the throttle valve are power/Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) * 2/Selectable Engine Brake/Willy Behavior Relaxation Control and CBR1000RR- In R FIREBLADE SP, each control level including the electronically controlled suspension can be switched at once, and the mode can be selected according to the riding style. In addition, it is newly equipped with a rod-type electronically controlled steering damper manufactured by SHOWA, which is lightweight while having quick response to steering operation and kickback resistance. Furthermore, as new functions, we have adopted an ABS * 3 mode switching system that suits the rider’s usability, and a start mode control that allows you to concentrate more on the clutch operation when starting, considering the use on the circuit. .. In addition, the CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP is equipped as standard with a quick shifter that enables quicker shift change operations.

The 6-Axis Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) advance sensor is capable of measuring the position of a motorcycle in six axes. This device works with the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) which has three setting modes (hard, medium, soft), useful for increasing driving stability at high speeds and cornering.

The ability of motorbikes is very flexible with Riding Mode which has three modes. Each mode will set the level for the amount of power (1-5), HSTC torque control (1-9), engine brake (1-3), wheelie control (1-3), and suspension (1-3).

The package is even more complete with the presence of the Wheelie Control feature which prevents the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade from lifting the front tire because it accelerates too high. This is coupled with Rear Lift Control which eliminates the potential for the rear tires to lift because the brakes are too deep.

One more thing that makes the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade even more classy is the Start Mode feature. This feature keeps the engine speed (rpm) constant when starting, allowing the driver to concentrate on clutch operation for optimal starting. This device is able to limit the maximum engine speed as desired (6,000-10,000 rpm).

The Assist & Slipper Clutch feature is standard, to ease the operation of the clutch and eliminate the effect of the tire locking when the engine brake occurs due to gear reduction. In the SP type, it is equipped with a Quick Shifter which makes shifting gears up and down faster.

Maximum Legs

The front suspension uses the STD type Inverted Telescopic model from Showa, and at the rear uses the Pro-Link with Gas Chamber Showa type. Everything can be set manually, from preload, rebound, to compression. While the SP type is equipped with Inverted Telescopic Ohlins Smart-EC front suspension, and the Pro-Link type with Gas Chamber Ohlins Smart-EC at the rear. Both can be adjusted via the driving mode settings.

Meanwhile, on the stop side, the STD type is equipped with a 4-piston Nissin Dual Front Disc Brake Radial, 330 mm in diameter. At the rear, using 2-piston Brembo brakes. In the SP type, the front brakes use Brembo Dual Front Disc Brake Radial 4 pistons. The back is the same as the STD type.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) devices have two modes to choose from. Sport for road use, and Track mode for circuit use which increases braking force.

The swing arm is made of aluminum. The dimensions are 30.55 mm longer than the previous Fireblade, but the weight is the same. The new exhaust, a collaboration between Honda and Akrapovic made of titanium.

  • Honda Selectable Torque Control is not a system for eliminating slip. Honda Selectable Torque Control is a system that assists the rider’s accelerator operation. Therefore, as with vehicles that are not equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control, it is not possible to handle unreasonable driving.
  • ABS is a system that assists the rider’s braking operation. As with vehicles that are not equipped with ABS, sufficient deceleration is required in front of corners, etc., and it is not possible to handle unreasonable driving. When ABS is activated, the system is activated by kickback (swing back).

Coloring full of racing image

The body color is available in Tricolor’s “Grand Prix Red”, which is full of racing images, the gold wheel and “Matte Pearl Morion Black” which is an aggressive and fearless image based on black to emphasize the proportions of a supersport model.
