Since its launch in Japan in 1988, the CRF1000L Africa Twin, like the “XRV750 Africa Twin” that established the adventure category in the 1990s, has been used in a variety of ways, from on-road in urban areas to highways and even unpaved roads. It is an adventure model that can run the whole road. Based on the development concept of “go anywhere” and “True Adventure,” this model was developed as a model equipped with equipment and technology suitable for a next-generation adventure model.
Equipped with a newly developed in-line 2-cylinder engine, including powerful and neat styling. The engine uses a 270-degree phase crank for unevenly spaced explosions and a twin-plug “phase ignition control system” to achieve excellent traction performance and a crisp throbbing feeling. In addition, mass concentration is achieved by placing heavy objects such as the battery in the back of the engine. In addition, the use of a “semi-double cradle frame” that secures sufficient rigidity while being lightweight achieves both excellent off-road driving performance and stable on-road handling. In addition, Honda’s unique Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) for motorcycles has improved control performance from on-road to off-road to match the rider’s senses. In addition, all models are equipped with “Honda Selectable Torque Control,” which efficiently transmits power even on rough roads.

2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin Main Features
Engine
Equipped with a 4-valve “Unicam valve train” that utilizes the know-how cultivated in the development of racing machines such as the “CRF450R” and “CRF250R” dedicated to motocross. The camshaft uses a lightweight cast camshaft made from the same material as Honda’s flagship sports model, the CBR1000RR. In addition, the “crankcase built-in oil tank type dry sump structure” achieves the lowest ground clearance in its class *1. The water pump is built into the clutch case and driven by the balancer shaft along with the oil pump, resulting in a lightweight and compact package. Due to the 270-degree phase crankshaft, the output characteristic has a good response from normal use to high revs, and as the revs rise, it produces a crisp pulse and a powerful exhaust sound while firmly transmitting power to the road surface. The “2-axis primary balance shaft” reduces vibration while letting you feel the traction.
In addition, Honda’s original DCT-equipped vehicle, which has a good reputation, is set as a transmission along with a manual transmission. In addition to the manual mode, the “D mode” is set to achieve the optimum balance between good fuel efficiency and comfortable cruising, and the “S mode” is a three-stage shift pattern that pursues sportier driving. It has two automatic modes. Also, as a new function, it adopts a control that estimates uphill and downhill, and selects the optimum shift pattern for the angle of inclination. In addition, in order to maximize the original performance of this DCT even on rough terrain, the G-switch equipped on the right side of the instrument panel directly changes the driving force due to throttle operation. It modifies the control to transfer to the wheels, making it easier to control the machine, which is critical when driving off-road.

Vehicle Equipment
Twin headlights follow the identity of the original Africa Twin. The steel semi-double cradle frame, which has both moderate suppleness and rigidity, ensures the necessary rigidity in various situations such as “off-road driving”, “comfort on highways”, and “driving with luggage loaded”. and balanced lightness and stability at a high level. The brakes are equipped with a combination of 4-pot radial fit calipers and 310mm wave-shaped floating discs at the front. The rear brake uses a 256mm wavy disc. In addition, the ABS on the rear side can be switched on and off, improving the usability of off-road driving. The suspension employs a long-stroke inverted front fork that absorbs shock from the road surface, and a fully adjustable mechanism that can be adjusted according to the road surface conditions. The rear shock adopts a fully adjustable mechanism including a dial type hydraulic preload adjuster that can be adjusted without tools. The wheels are 21/18 inch spoke wheels on the front and rear, and are equipped with 90/90-21 and 150/70R 18 size tires respectively. The seat height uses a “seat adjustment mechanism” that can be easily adjusted simply by removing and attaching the seat when riding in tandem or when placing emphasis on foot grounding. It is possible to change from the standard position of 870mm to 850mm, which is 20mm lower.
Design color variations
The styling, designed under the theme of “UNLIMITED ADVENTURE,” inherits the identity of the first generation Africa Twin, while also giving an adventurous look that evokes the image of the Dakar Rally participation model “CRF450 RALLY.” .
Body colors include Victory Red, which is the color of the Dakar Rally machine “CRF450 RALLY”, Tricolor Pearl Glare White, which is reminiscent of successive Africa Twins, and a metallic mass that makes it an urban setting. We have set all three types of digital silver metallic that beautifully reflects the sunlight.
