The sports models Honda CBR400R, CB400F and 400X equipped with the newly developed water-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line 2-cylinder 400cc engine. The CBR400R was released on April 23 (Tuesday), the CB400F was released on May 23 (Thursday), and the 400X was released on June 7 (Friday).

In developing these three models, we pursued ease of handling in a wide range of situations from city driving to touring, and adopted the latest design trends. All three models share a newly developed engine and frame, but each has a distinctive styling.

The engine has smooth and easy-to-use output characteristics from low/medium revs to high revs, and supports light and sporty driving. In addition, by pursuing low friction technology and combustion efficiency, we have achieved excellent fuel efficiency of 39.7km/L (60km/h constant-land driving test value).

The body uses a newly designed diamond frame that is supple and has excellent rigidity. In addition to centralizing the mass, you can enjoy sporty driving by adopting front and rear suspensions that demonstrate high road surface followability.

The styling is based on a different design concept for each of the three models. By adopting a unique design full of high quality and dynamic feeling, the sense of ownership is enhanced.

Main features of the newly developed engine [common to all three models]

The water-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, in-line 2-cylinder 400cc engine was developed with the goal of being easy to handle for a wide range of people, from entry users to veteran riders, and enjoying light and sporty driving. In addition, in order to realize powerful output characteristics, we aim to improve the efficiency of intake and exhaust, increase the diameter of the intake and exhaust valves, and straighten the air cleaner to the intake port. In order to achieve excellent fuel efficiency, we have adopted a wide range of low friction technologies, such as the adoption of roller rocker arms. Furthermore, aiming for a high-quality engine, the primary and balancer gears are equipped with ceramic gears to reduce gear noise. Moreover, the vibration is reduced by adopting a 180 degree crank and a couple balancer, and smooth rotation and excellent quietness are realized. For the appearance, the mounting position and mounting angle of the engine are thoroughly verified from the perspective of the entire finished vehicle. While having a powerful design, by adopting socket bolts in various places, the beauty of modeling is also brought out.

Newly developed body and suspension [common to all three models]

The frame has been newly developed with the aim of achieving the optimum body size that can be enjoyed from daily use to touring and sporty driving. While aiming to centralize the mass, we have adopted a diamond type that combines suppleness and rigidity at a high level. The suspension uses a telescopic type with an inner tube diameter of 41 mm on the front and a Prolink suspension on the rear, making it excellent for road surface follow-up. In addition, ABS is set to avoid locking the tires during sudden braking.
