Honda CBX250RS has inherited the basic characteristics of the Honda CB250RS, which is popular for its excellent maneuverability and ease of handling, and has newly designed high-performance air-cooled, 4-cycle, DOHC single-cylinder engine (249cc) with the RFVC (Radial Four Valve Combustion Chamber). The sports bike “Honda CBX250RS” was released on May 20th 1983.
The engine had a valve arrangement and a combustion chamber shape called “RFVC system” at the time. In order to burn the mixture of gasoline and air with ideal efficiency, it is ideal to have a hemispherical combustion chamber. The result was the RFVC system, a radial 4-valve combustion chamber. The output obtained by ideal combustion efficiency was 30ps, and high fuel consumption of 58km per liter (at 50km/h level driving) was also realized. In terms of styling, it’s like a general cowlless sport with no sharp points. The transmission is a 6-speed transmission, and the front brake is a disc type (rear is a drum). With a low seat height of 770 mm, it was a high-performance basic model that was easy to handle. In 1985, the CBX250S with a similar model name appeared, but it was a different model with a different engine.
This Honda CBX250RS was developed in pursuit of a high-performance, easy-to-ride basic sports model. The engine employs a groundbreaking RFVC system that realizes a hemispherical combustion chamber with four radially arranged valves for ideal combustion efficiency. As a result, the diameters of the intake and exhaust valves have been expanded, and a center plug system that enhances flame propagation performance has been made possible, greatly improving combustion efficiency and intake and exhaust efficiency. Furthermore, by adopting the DOHC system, high-speed rotation and high output have been achieved with a maximum output of 30PS and a maximum torque of 2.4kg-m. at the same time. In addition, the intake efficiency has been improved from low speed to high speed.
1983 Honda CBX250RS Price
Sales plan (domestic/annual) : 18,000 units (planned).
National Standard Cash Price was 368,000 yen
(Hokkaido and Okinawa prices are 6,000 yen higher and exclude some remote islands.)
Combined with the adoption of the dual carburetor system, it achieves good response and ease of handling in the medium and low speed range and high power in the high speed range.
The frame uses a lightweight, highly rigid semi-double cradle. As for the suspension, the front wheels use hydraulic disc brakes equipped with Honda’s unique dual-piston calipers that demonstrate excellent braking power. In addition, newly designed large-diameter spokes with a flat cross section are used for the front and rear wheels. The rear cushion is equipped with a reservoir tank that reduces heat dripping. In addition, the low seat height of 770mm makes it easy to get your feet on, making it a high-performance road sports bike that is even easier to handle.
As a result, Honda’s 250cc class sports bikes are enriched with 10 models and 14 types, from on-road to off-road and trekking. This has made it possible to meet the needs of a wider range of customers.
