Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has installed a high-performance, water-cooled, two-stroke engine in a lightweight, slim body, and has developed a land sports car that allows you to enjoy tenacious and smooth driving in a wide range of applications, from full-scale off-road driving to touring. The engine output characteristics of the motorcycle “Honda CRM250R” and overall performance such as the body and suspension characteristics have been further improved, and it will be released on March 20th 1991.
This CRM250R is based on the advanced technology obtained from the “CR series”, a competition-only motorcycle that is very active in motocross competitions held on uneven terrain around the world. In recent years, enduro (rough road endurance) events have become more popular as a familiar outdoor sport. It greatly improves flag running performance.

1991 Honda CRM250R Features
- The engine adopts the PGM-RC valve system, which digitally controls Honda’s unique variable exhaust port valve system, which changes the exhaust timing according to the engine speed and obtains powerful combustion power. At the same time, the ignition timing control has also been digitized, making it PGM-DC-CDI. In addition, the exhaust system (chamber, silencer), which greatly contributes to the output characteristics, has also been newly designed. Combined with the refinement of details such as the air cleaner structure, carburetor, and combustion chamber shape, it is even more powerful from the low/mid- to high-rpm range. Agile output characteristics (maximum output: 37PS → 40PS, maximum torque: 3.4kgm → 3.7kgm) are demonstrated. At the same time, the 1st to 4th gear ratio of the transmission is a close ratio suitable for enduro driving, and the 6th gear (top) is a high ratio, improving usability from city driving to highway driving. .
- For the suspension, both the front and rear suspensions are newly designed, and the front adopts a high-rigidity, extra-thick (slide pipe diameter 45mm) inverted fork that is the same size as the CR. The amount of cushion movement has also been increased from 280mm to 290mm, and at the same time, a damping force adjustment mechanism on the compression side has also been newly installed. For the rear suspension, the link ratio of Honda’s original Delta Prolink has been changed, and the damper has also been made of aluminum with a larger diameter (44mm). At the same time, thorough improvements have been made to the internal structure, such as the valve shape and adjustment mechanism, and the amount of movement has been extended from 280mm to 300mm. Even under severe conditions such as enduro driving, the movement is smooth at low speeds and stable at high speeds. In addition to demonstrating excellent damping force, the range of adjustment according to the rider’s preference and road surface conditions has also been expanded.
- The thickness of the head pipe, main pipe, down tube, and other components of the frame have been changed to match the higher output of the engine and strengthened suspension. Improves manoeuvrability.
- The coloring is based on white with bold fluorescent red, making it light, powerful and dynamic.
- Other main features
・Large-capacity aluminum radiator (same size as CR250R)
・Crank shaft with improved toughness
・Improved operation feel Newly-designed lightweight rear tire for improved performance on rough roads Front and rear brakes and disc plates for improved brake toughness Operation Rear brake pedal with improved responsiveness
・Newly designed chamber shape that makes the rider’s weight shift more smoothly
・Direction indicator with improved visibility (10W → 15W)
