The CBR1000RR to be released this time is a development concept inherited from the first model “CBR900RR” released in 1992. Under the development theme of “evolution”, we have adopted the lightest vehicle weight in its class and the lightness brought about by mass concentration, the power unit that achieves both improved output and easy-to-use characteristics, and the electronic control technology that supports fan riding, making it fun to operate. It is the top model of the CBR series that we pursued.
The CBR1000RR SP is equipped with an electronically controlled suspension that uses the ÖHLINS Smart EC system, which controls the damping force according to the driving conditions and provides optimum characteristics, as well as a Brembo front brake caliper. In addition, in order to further reduce weight and centralize mass, we have installed a lithium-ion battery and adopted the world’s first titanium fuel tank as a mass-produced vehicle for public roads. It is a special specification put in.

Main features of CBR 1000 RR/CBR1000RR SP 2BL-SC77
Lightest vehicle weight in its class and lightness brought about by mass concentration
- The main frame has improved responsiveness and further weight reduction, such as optimizing the rigidity of the engine hanger.
- Adopts a newly designed aluminum die-cast seat rail, a newly designed front and rear wheels, and a new structure titanium muffler. Furthermore, by pursuing thorough weight reduction of each part of the car body, significant weight reduction and mass concentration have been realized. In addition, the CBR1000RR SP uses a lithium-ion battery that is significantly lighter than the conventional model, and the world’s first titanium fuel tank as a mass-produced vehicle for public roads. Contributes to a light and neutral handling characteristic due to weight reduction and mass concentration.
Power unit that has both improved output and more controllable characteristics
- ・ Combining engine specifications such as valve timing, lift amount, and compression ratio with intake/exhaust system settings such as throttle bore expansion and muffler structure optimization, powerful torque characteristics in the low rev range and output in the high rev range.
- Adopts a throttle-by-wire system that controls the throttle valve by detecting the throttle grip opening with a sensor and sending a drive signal to the throttle-by-wire motor. This realizes controllable characteristics from a low opening while expanding the throttle bore.
- Newly designed assist slipper clutch. Compared to the conventional model, the operating load of the clutch lever is reduced and the operating feeling is improved.
- The left crankcase cover and oil pan have been changed from conventional aluminum to magnesium, and a titanium muffler with a new structure has been adopted, contributing to further weight reduction and mass concentration.
Adoption of electronic control technology to support fan riding
Body posture estimation system
- ・ IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) detects the angular velocity and acceleration of the vehicle body, and Honda’s original algorithm estimates the vehicle body attitude. ABS * 4 for super sports, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) * 5, and CBR1000RR SP can be combined with the ÖHLINS Smart EC system to provide “fun to operate” according to driving conditions.
- ABS is a system that assists the rider’s braking operation. As with vehicles that are not equipped with ABS, sufficient deceleration is required in front of corners, etc., and it is not possible to handle unreasonable driving. When ABS is activated, kickback (swing back) informs the system operation.
- Honda Selectable Torque Control is not a system for eliminating slip. Honda Selectable Torque Control is a system that assists the rider’s accelerator operation. Therefore, as with vehicles that are not equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control, it is not possible to handle unreasonable driving.
Power selector
- The output characteristics for throttle operation can be selected arbitrarily according to the rider’s preference and driving conditions. Five stages are set, from “Level 1”, which allows you to draw out to the peak output in all gears, to “Level 5”, which controls the output from 1st to 4th gears and makes the reaction the most gentle.
Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
- ・ 9 levels of torque control intervention level and OFF can be selected according to the rider’s preference.
- ・ The ECU calculates the rear wheel slip ratio from the front and rear wheel rotation speed ratio from the wheel speed sensor. By controlling the throttle valve opening when it is necessary to suppress the engine torque in combination with the vehicle body attitude information from the IMU, rear wheel slip during cornering and acceleration is suppressed.
- ・ When the deceleration of the front tires and the acceleration of the rear tires that occur during the wheelie behavior during acceleration are detected from the signals of the front and rear wheel speed sensors, the throttle valve opening is adjusted until the front tires touch the ground and shift to the accelerated state. The wheelie is relaxed by lowering it to attenuate the torque.
Selectable engine brake
- The throttle is fully closed while driving to control the strength of the engine brake when decelerating. Three levels can be selected according to the rider’s preference.
ÖHLINS Smart EC system
- The CBR1000RR SP uses the ÖHLINS Smart EC system, which provides optimum damping characteristics according to driving conditions. “Automatic mode (A mode)” that automatically adjusts the damping performance can be selected from three preset modes. In addition, it is equipped with an “ÖHLINS Object Based Tuning interface” that allows riders to make adjustments. By adjusting parameters for each situation such as deceleration and acceleration, the damping force is automatically adjusted according to each driving characteristic, providing behavior changes that suit the rider’s taste. In addition, the suspension setting can be adjusted arbitrarily in “manual mode”.
Riding mode
- ・ Power selector, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Selectable Engine Brake, and CBR1000RR SP, from the combination of each control level including ÖHLINS Smart EC system, 3 preset modes and combinations can be set arbitrarily 2 A total of 5 types of riding modes are set. It is possible to arbitrarily select the driving feeling that suits the driving situation and the rider’s preference.
ABS for super sports models only
- The brake pressure is controlled according to the driving conditions such as when going straight and when cornering, contributing to the exercise performance unique to the super sports model.
- The ECU calculates the acceleration signal from the IMU generated during braking to detect the vehicle body behavior and precisely control the braking pressure. While demonstrating high braking force, it suppresses rear wheel lift (rear lift) during sudden deceleration.
Quick shifter
- The 2017 CBR1000RR SP is equipped as standard with a quick shifter that eliminates the need for clutch and throttle operations associated with upshifts and downshifts, and supports fan riding during sports driving. Optional setting for CBR1000RR.
Styling pursuing comfort and aerodynamic characteristics as a super sports model
- Expressing a light and aggressive image with the theme of “tight & compact”. By pushing each cowl surface inward with the minimum required cowl area and tighter, it is possible to reduce the compactness and front projection area, contributing to weight reduction and mass concentration.
- The shape of the fuel tank has been reviewed and the width of both sides of the knee grip has been slimmed down. Increased freedom of load control by the rider.
Electrical system
- By converting all lighting equipment such as headlights, tail lamps, and turn signals to LEDs, we have achieved light weight, compactness, and power saving.
- Equipped with a meter that uses a full-color TFT LCD that conveys a wealth of vehicle information and various control statuses to the rider in an easy-to-understand manner.
- The CBR1000RR SP is equipped with a smaller and lighter lithium-ion battery as standard equipment. Optional setting for CBR1000RR.
Color variations
- The 2017 Honda CBR 1000RR has a black graphic with a wing mark as a motif based on red, and “Victory Red” expressing strength and bright red based on black are arranged in various places to enhance the innovation. Two colors of expressed “matt ballistic black metallic” are set.
- The Honda CBR1000RR SP 2017 is based on red with a blue graphic with a wing mark as a motif, and silver is used for the frame and swing arm, and gold is used for the front and rear wheels, which is one color of “Victory Red” that expresses Honda Racing DNA.
- For the 2017 model, a sticker commemorating the 25th anniversary of the release of the first CBR900RR in 1992 is adopted on the upper surface of the fuel tank.
