Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, familiarly called Pak SBY, is the 6th president of the Republic of Indonesia. He is the first president of Indonesia to be directly elected by the people in the second round of the Presidential Election on September 20, 2004. The best graduate of AKABRI (1973) who is familiarly called SBY was born in Pacitan, East Java on September 9, 1949. His wife is named Kristiani Herawati, the third daughter of the late General (ret.) Sarwo Edhi Wibowo.

This retired four-star general is the only child of the couple R. Soekotjo and Sitti Habibah. The blood of a soldier comes from his father who retired as a First Lieutenant. While his mother, Siti Habibah, is the daughter of one of the founders of the Tremas Islamic Boarding School. He was blessed with two sons, namely Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (following and emulating SBY’s footsteps and achievements, graduating from Akmil in 2000 with the Bintang Adhi Makayasa award) and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (the best graduate of SMA Taruna Nusantara, Magelang who later studied economics).

SBY Enters the World of Politics and Becomes the Sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia

Meanwhile, his political career began on January 27, 2000, when he decided to retire early from the military when he was trusted to serve as Minister of Mining and Energy in the government of President KH. Abdurrahman Wahid. Not long after, SBY was forced to leave his position as Mentamben because Gus Dur asked him to serve as Menkopolsoskam. On August 10, 2001, President Megawati trusted and appointed him as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs of the Gotong Royong Cabinet. However, on March 11, 2004, he chose to resign from his position as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs. This resignation step made him freer to exercise his political rights which would lead him to the top seat of national leadership. And finally, in the second round of the direct presidential election on September 20, 2004, SBY, who was paired with Jusuf Kalla, won the trust of the majority of the Indonesian people with more than 60 percent of the vote. On October 20, 2004, he was inaugurated as the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia. Then after the end of his term in 2009, he announced that he would run again as a presidential candidate with Boediono as the vice presidential candidate supported by the Demokrat party, then after the general election in 2009, SBY was then elected for the second time as president with a term of 2009 to 2014 with Boediono as vice president.
