The 6th Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, is one of the Vice Presidents of Indonesia who came from the Military. Actually, there are several Vice Presidents of Indonesia who do have a Military background. This is of course not strange, because during the reign of President Soeharto, President Soeharto himself was a military man. So it is not surprising that President Soeharto often chose Vice Presidents of Indonesia from the Military. Because of course the mutual trust and attachment from the military will facilitate communication between the President and Vice President.

The People’s Consultative Assembly for the 1992-1997 term through its General Session in 1993, finally chose Try Soetrisno as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia to accompany HM. Soeharto, the president-elect at that time. It was the ABRI Faction of the MPR-RI that nominated him first, preceding the open choice of President Soeharto at that time. Something that was unusual in the New Order era. It is said that President Soeharto felt that he was a fait accompli.

The Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (1993-1998) was known as an honest, humble, loyal, highly dedicated and firm statesman. The best son of this nation is not someone who is hungry for position (ambitious) who is willing to justify any means to achieve a certain position.

In 1998 his duties as Vice President ended, and was then replaced by BJ. Habibie at the 1998 MPR General Session.
