Redmi Pad SE Design Review
If previously the external appearance of a tablet was considered standard and less attractive, now most gadget vendors are starting to pay attention to this side.
And Xiaomi is quite serious about accommodating consumer expectations of the importance of attractive design in a tablet. Redmi Pad SE is one of the real proofs.
Xiaomi’s latest tablet targeting the entry-level segment appears with a pretty charming design. Its body is wrapped in sturdy metal material. Based on technical data, the frame also uses metal material.
This is what makes the physical construction of the Redmi Pad SE feel solid when held. There is no impression of a cheap tablet, even though this tablet is actually priced at less than 2 million rupiah.
When compared to products that use similar materials, other brands generally set prices much higher. This is the first point that makes the Redmi Pad SE superior.
In addition to being attractive through premium design materials, this tablet also has a body dimension that is relatively thin in its class. Its technical dimensions are 255.5 x 167.1 x 7.4 mm with a weight of around 478 grams.
Its dimensions are still compact and comfortable to use in both portrait and landscape modes, and of course suitable for everyday use, both at home and on the go.
The back panel, precisely in the lower left corner, has a fairly bold ‘Redmi’ logo and at the top there is a square-shaped camera module with the top containing a camera module that has a large circle, and the bottom side with a darker colored part that says 8.0MP camera resolution.
This part of the camera module is coated with a glass-like material which makes its appearance more elegant.
The back of the Redmi Pad SE has a rough texture and is not slippery when held. Quite interesting, especially if you don’t want to cover it with a special cover.
Oh yeah, speaking of covers, Xiaomi apparently provides Redmi Pad SE cover accessories that can be purchased separately. This cover has a special magnet on the fold that can make this tablet stand in landscape position.
Moving to the edge of the Redmi Pad SE body. There is a volume button on the top left when positioned in landscape mode, right next to it a little to the right is the Memory Card tray port.
The power or lock screen button is positioned on the upper left side within reach of the volume button and is also equipped with two speaker cones and the words Dolby Atmos in the middle.
Meanwhile, on the opposite side, there are two more speaker cones, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-C port for charging or transferring data to other devices via a data cable.
For your information, the Redmi Pad SE itself is available in Indonesia with two trendy color choices, namely Graphite Gray and Mint Green.
In fact, there is still one other color variant, namely Lavender Purple, which is reportedly only available for the global market. Hopefully, Xiaomi Indonesia will also present this color option to the country.
Redmi Pad SE Cover
As mentioned earlier, Xiaomi also presents a number of supporting accessories for its latest tablet. And one of them is the Redmi Pad SE Cover.
The presence of this cover will certainly add comfort when using this tablet. It can also be used as a screen or body protector when put in a bag.
Like most tablet covers, the Redmi Pad SE Cover also has a special part that can be folded, making it like a kick-stand. In this part, Xiaomi has embedded a special magnet that will make the folded part stick tightly in kick-stand mode.
For this special cover, Xiaomi sells it separately for Rp 299,000 and is available in two color choices, namely black and white. And in this Redmi Pad SE review, we get the white cover color.
Screen
Like most tablet reviews, this sector is the most important aspect of a tablet, and the Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE does not disappoint its users.
This tablet is equipped with an 11-inch screen with FHD+ resolution (1200 x 1920 pixels) with a 16:10 aspect ratio that supports 16.7 million colors, which will certainly provide comfort when accessing all applications, as well as enjoying entertainment content.
The image quality presented by the Redmi Pad SE screen is very sharp and clear. In fact, the action of browsing various menus is much smoother and faster thanks to the support of a high refresh rate of 90Hz and a touch sampling rate of 180Hz.
Meanwhile, for the screen type itself, this tablet only supports IPS LCD and not AMOLED which is increasingly being used on today’s tablets.
For an affordable tablet, the screen specifications carried by the Redmi Pad SE are quite capable.
The screen panel design is standard for most tablets, with a large area. Each side is decorated with a bezel that is still quite thick, but does not reduce comfort when using it.
Xiaomi claims that the Redmi Pad SE screen supports a screen brightness level of up to 400 nits. This means that the tablet’s screen is capable of presenting a fairly capable level of image brightness and color.
When used directly under sunlight, the tablet screen is still a little bit capable of displaying content on the screen clearly enough. To optimize it, you can adjust the screen brightness level manually, or set it to adjust the ambient light conditions.
For those who like to personalize the screen display, Xiaomi provides complete settings ranging from widgets, wallpapers to themes.
This is also thanks to the support of the MIUI 14 for Pad interface based on Android 13, which offers a User Interface that is certainly very easy for users to navigate and use.
Not to be missed, the Redmi Pad SE screen is also supported by Eye-care Display technology with TÜV Rheinland certified Low Blue Light (Software Solution) and TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification.
So, for those who like to stare at the screen and watch movies on a tablet for long periods of time, it is still quite comfortable for your eyes.
MIUI 14 for Pad
Xiaomi’s latest tablet comes with the latest interface, namely MIUI 14 for Pad, based on Android 13.
The MIUI 14 interface design looks clean and minimalist, with icon characters that appear more elegant.
The plus point is, the Redmi Pad SE interface is able to maximize the pad usage experience with 200 applications that can be adapted horizontally.
In addition, this latest interface also presents tablet screen gesture optimization which will make it easier for users to multi-task.
For those of you who are new to using a tablet, it seems that the user interface presented by this tablet is not an obstacle. In fact, it could be easier to adapt and comfortable when operating it.
Moreover, this tablet interface also supports a number of special functions that make it easier for users, such as floating windows and gestures.
For those who like to read, this tablet interface also offers screen optimization by presenting Reading Mode. There are two mode options that can be set, namely Classic and Paper.
Redmi Pad SE Performance
This sector is usually the most anticipated. As Xiaomi always touts, even though it is priced at an affordable price, the performance of its products is always touted as the champion in its class. Likewise in this Redmi Pad SE.
This tablet is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 680, which is actually a mobile chipset that is reportedly a little behind compared to current tablet products.
Even so, with the support of an octa-core processor consisting of 4×2.4 GHz Kryo 265 Gold & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo 265 Silver and an Adreno 610 GPU, the Redmi Pad SE is still capable of maximum acceleration.
The overall performance of this tablet is quite capable in its class. All functions and applications can be run smoothly without any significant obstacles.
The multitasking capability on this tablet is also inseparable from the support of 4GB RAM and 128GB storage that still supports LPDDR4X and eMMC 5.1 memory types. The plus point is, this tablet supports expansion memory up to 1TB capacity.
Those of you who like to store document files, photos, videos, music and so on don’t need to worry about memory anymore.
Interestingly, Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE is also equipped with a Memory Extension feature. Here, users can increase the RAM capacity with options up to 3GB.
In accordance with its designation as a family tablet for enjoying entertainment, the Redmi Pad SE is certainly suitable for watching streaming videos and enjoying music. Because, this device has been equipped with Quad Speakers with Dolby Atmos technology.
The quality of the audio burst is beyond doubt. In addition to being clear and strong, the audio output is also quite round and certainly comfortable to the ear.
This combination is also suitable to be enjoyed while playing games. Based on the test results, almost all of the young people’s favorite mobile games can be run smoothly on the Redmi Pad SE. Call it Mobile Legends, Free Fire, AoV to car racing games like Asphalt 9.
For Mobile Legends, this tablet is able to present graphic options at the ‘Ultra’ level and frame rates at the ‘High’ option. During play, this game is able to run stably and is even classified as playable when displaying busy parts of the game’s graphics.
Specifically for games, this tablet also supports optimization features when playing via Game Turbo. Here, you can make various settings to optimize gaming.
During the Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE review for gaming for approximately 30 minutes, the tablet’s body significantly showed a gradually hot condition. This condition is actually still considered normal and in accordance with the hardware specifications used.
Even so, the use of premium metal materials and standard cooling technology, Redmi Pad SE is able to minimize the heat flow that appears during high operation.
For those who are still curious about the performance of this tablet, you can also see the benchmark results using several applications as shown below:
Camera
Like a tablet, the presence of a camera is a plus point. And in this Redmi Pad SE, Xiaomi has embedded an 8MP main camera with an f/2.0 lens aperture and a 5MP front camera with an f/2.2 aperture that is centered.
The quality of the shots is certainly very standard and seems to be more of a complement. For the front camera which is positioned right in the middle, it seems to have advantages in terms of functionality.
The reason is, with the position in the middle (top of the screen) in landscape position, this camera will be very suitable for communicating with relatives via video calls, while of course enjoying entertainment content.
In addition to being able to take photos, the front and rear cameras of this tablet are also equipped with the ability to record videos. The maximum quality that can be supported is 1080p at 30fps.
Redmi Pad SE Battery
To support its use, the Redmi Pad SE is equipped with a super large capacity battery for today’s affordable tablet size. Based on technical data, this tablet has an embedded battery with a capacity of 8,000 mAh.
The battery itself can be recharged using a USB-C cable that is already available in the sales package. And interestingly, this tablet supports 10W quick charge.
Based on the results of our Redmi Pad SE review, charging the battery from 0% to 100% takes about 2 hours.
In terms of performance, the battery carried by this tablet can be used to accompany you watching streaming videos for more than 2 hours with a power consumption of around 15%. This condition is certainly also influenced by several conditions, such as internet connection via WiFi.
For normal operation, the review results show that the Redmi Pad SE battery can generally provide up to a full day.
Xiaomi also presents reliable power management on this tablet, one of which is by adding a power saving feature.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE is an impressive tablet with a combination of premium design, stunning display, superior performance and high-quality audio.
This tablet is suitable for various purposes, from entertainment to productivity. With a competitive price, the Redmi Pad SE is an attractive choice for those looking for a high-quality tablet without having to dig too deep into their pockets.
Thus, Xiaomi continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the innovative and affordable technology market.
