Released: July 2022
Price: £249,99 (IDR 7,999,000,-)

Although it can be said that it is not the most complete in the Reno8 series, the OPPO Reno8 5G already brings all the premium things. Starting from the thin and light metal unibody design, making it present without a 3.5mm audio jack and even without an additional memory slot like a flagship, as well as premium camera sensors on both sides, front and back. Coming without the MariSilicon X NPU, the Reno8 5G still presents great photo results.

The design looks fresh and premium, because it is based on the design of their flagship OPPO Find X5 Pro, as well as the support of the Sony IMX709 sensor duo on the front and IMX766 on the back, making this new Reno cellphone suitable as the latest generation Reno which still carries Portrait Expert. What about other aspects?

Unibody Design Looks Premium

The Backcover of the Reno8 5G is formed by a single layer formed in one mold. So there is no separation between the camera section and the other back cover sections. We only find a difference in height, which has been arranged in such a way that it is at one point that remains comfortable when used with one hand.

By still applying OPPO Glow coloring which makes it not easily scratched and stores fingerprints, this cellphone is available in two color choices. Namely Shimmer Gold and Shimmer Black.

Especially the shimmer gold, it is able to display colorful light reflections. Depending on the angle of the incoming light, it looks glowing and elegant.

This phone is made thin with sharp edges, forming a classic retro box, so it is comfortable to use without the need for a built-in silicone case.

Unfortunately, because it uses a flagship-style design, the Reno8 5G phone no longer carries a 3.5 mm audio port like the Reno7 5G. Also for the same reason, this phone no longer carries an additional memory slot. Only provides a stacked dual NanoSIM slot like the OPPO Find X series flagship.

90Hz AMOLED screen

OPPO Reno8 5G carries an AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels in a 6.4-inch span. It is a premium phone standard, also carries a 90Hz refresh rate to make our eyes comfortable when browsing on social media.

Like other OPPO Reno series screens, the Reno8 5G screen uses a single punch hole design to embed the front camera. With it, the screen feels spacious, so the bezel looks thin, except for the bottom which is indeed provided for more comfortable gesture control.

ColorOS 12.1 and Ready to Update to 13

Reno8 5G immediately installed ColorOS 12.1 since it was received by you from the store. This means that you have received the latest version of ColorOS for now. With a number of advantages in terms of connectivity with WindowsPC, better security especially when switching from one application to another application and so on.

Including a RAM expansion feature of up to 5GB additional taken from internal memory. With 256 GB of internal memory, it can run smoothly without any hiccups in the system.

The good news is, the Reno8 5G will soon get the ColorOS 13 update based on Android 13 in October 2022. Earlier than the Reno8 and Reno8 Z 5G. Even the flagship two years ago, the OPPO Find X2 Pro.

Dimensity 1300 5G

Compared to the Reno7 5G which was the predecessor in the same sector, the Reno8 5G also carries a chipset made by Mediatek, only more updated, namely the Dimensity 1300 5G. Still carrying 6nm fabrication which means it is able to use power more efficiently.

This chipset carries 3 CPU clusters. Consisting of 1 cluster with 1 Cortex A78 core with a speed of 3 GHz, 1 cluster with 3 Cortex A78 CPU cores with a speed of 2.6 GHz, and 1 cluster with 4 Cortex A55 cores with a speed of 2 GHz.

Promises optimal performance for single and multitasking. However, it is feared that it can cause excessive heat in the cellphone cavity. Luckily, OPPO has installed a Super Conductive VC Liquid Cooling System that can dissipate heat more effectively so that the cellphone remains comfortable to use even at its highest performance.

This cellphone carries 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage media. As mentioned above, OPPO also carries the RAM Expansion feature, which will allow the system to add up to 5GB of RAM, taken from the internal memory that is still available.

Camera with dual Flagship Sensor

On the back, the OPPO Reno8 5G carries a triple main camera. Here OPPO uses a 50MP F/1.8 Sony IMX766 sensor. This is one of Sony’s flagship camera sensors.

This main camera is supported by Quadra Bining technology, where the camera can capture more light to reduce Noise in the image. In addition, there is also DOL-HDR (Digital Overlap HDR) technology, which will produce photos and videos with a better dynamic range. So that the image details are more visible.

Then next there is an 8MP F/2.2 Ultra-Wide camera and a 2MP F/2.4 Macro lens. In addition to macro photography, this sensor is also used to assist the main sensor during portrait mode, namely to capture the depth of field in the background, so that portrait photos/videos can appear optimally.

As for the selfie camera, the Reno8 5G uses a 32 MP sensor, Sony IMX709, f/2.4, which also uses the DOL-HDR feature.

Moving on to video capabilities, the OPPO Reno8 5G carries the Ultra Night video feature, which is video recording at night that is enhanced with AI, so that the video image quality remains good even in low light conditions.

For the recording itself, this smartphone can record a maximum of 1080p/60FPS, 4K/30 FPS on the main sensor, and 1080p/30FPS on the ultra-wide angle sensor.

Battery with SuperVOOC 80W

The OPPO Reno8 5G carries a battery with a capacity of 4500mAh. But the most interesting thing is the charging is quite fast, an update from the previous Reno series. Equipped with an 80W SuperVOOC charger, from 0% to 50%, charging only takes about 11 minutes. Meanwhile, to reach 100%, it only takes half an hour.

Other Important Features

Various other features are also present on this smartphone for user needs, including:
NFC: To check and top up flash card balances
Multi Screen Connect: Can be connected to a PC screen for up to three applications
Always On Display: The screen display is always active, displaying important widgets such as Clock, Notifications and others
Omoji: Create Emoji using personal characters
Video Color Boost: Displays colors with higher contrast on the screen

The other OPPO Reno series:

Conclusion

OPPO Reno8 5G is positioned as a replacement for OPPO Reno7 5G. Both in terms of price and in terms of the features it carries. However, this time the Reno8 5G appears closer to the flagship series, seen from the design it carries and the camera sensors embedded in it. Even without an additional NPU, this cellphone is still able to present good photo results.
