Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Reviews
Simple Design
The Samsung tablet-style design that we have known for the past few years is used again for the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. This is interesting because it gives the impression that these Samsung tablets look like cellphones that have been given fertilizer, enlarged! Although the screen itself has a 5:3 ratio, the design of this tablet has a relatively rectangular form factor. Elongated and not too square like competitor products.
Judging from the location of the front camera which is on the shortest side, it gives the impression that this tablet is actually made to be used in portrait position. But as a tablet, its use will be much more comfortable when positioned landscape or horizontally. The viewing angle becomes wider.
A similar assumption will arise when looking at the back of this tablet. The Samsung writing is placed in a position that can be read when the tablet is positioned vertically or portrait. Accompanied by one main camera located in the upper left corner in a square shape.
The material of this tablet is quite interesting to discuss. Not so special, but also not to be said to be careless. Consists of a combination of aluminum and hard plastic. Where the reinforcement and the sloping part on the back cover are metal parts, while the edges of the tablet are made of hard plastic that is colored glossy. Making this tablet not look boring.
The side bones are made quite high, making it easy to hold, while also providing space for a large battery and speaker cavity that can display stereo audio separation. Unlike the location of the front camera and the Samsung writing on the back, these speaker holes are placed on the two shortest ends, aka it will be more effective when the screen is in a horizontal or landscape position.
Unlike the premium version of the Galaxy Tab which already offers 4 audio output funnels, up to 8 points even, this Galaxy Tab A7 Lite only offers two audio outputs which are considered sufficient to produce stereo sound when enjoying multimedia shows or playing games.
Display
The Samsung A7 Lite series tablet that we reviewed is a product with 4G LTE network support with an 8.7-inch screen span. The size is quite large, but also quite small to be placed in an inner jacket pocket, or in our sling bag without requiring additional space.
This type of TFT screen that emits a resolution of 800 x 1340 pixels is then protected with a layer of glass leaving a bezel space that is still visible although not too wide. It is a touch screen that is actually quite responsive, but with some notes regarding the UI below.
New Version of One UI
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite brings the One UI custom UI version 3.1 based on Android 11. In fact, it already has a display that supports both vertical and horizontal modes.
The clean and simple appearance typical of One UI is still displayed, although it still maintains the app tray, when users want to search for applications that have been installed but are not present on the home screen.
But, unfortunately regarding the UI on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, there are several things that are quite unfortunate. For example, the loss of pen feature support, limited screen mirroring capabilities, loading applications that take longer, to the part of swiping the menu that feels less responsive.
Although we think that this is just a problem of “handshaking” between the UI and the chipset that is not yet optimal, and should be reduced when fixed with a newer UI version, for example, we see another possibility that the price factor is the problem.
Fortunately, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is a product that is fully supported by Google. This means that almost all applications that can be installed on your Android phone can certainly be enjoyed on this tablet too. The advantage is that you will experience the application experience that is usually used in a wider screen display.
Mid-Range Chipset Performance
Although Samsung has not mentioned what type of SoC this tablet carries on its official website, it is certain that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 2021 carries a chipset made by Mediatek, with the Helio P22T type which relies on an 8-core CPU, PowerVR GE8320 GPU and other things that support the basic work of the tablet in 12 nm fabrication.
This chipset according to its description is a chipset made for tablets with high mobility, which carries a 4G LTE Cat-7 modem. And tends to support convenient connectivity solutions.
So, when reviewing this product, we also found a number of interesting things. But before getting there, let’s check the CPU, GPU and Memory of this tablet. As previously mentioned, the Helio P22T carries an 8-core CPU, consisting of 4 Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz and 4 other Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz, which are side by side for the big LITTLE function.
Then this tablet carries 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage media which can be added via MicroSD up to 1 TB in size.
In addition to opening PDFs, documents, school assignments, watching YouTube, Netflix and so on, we also use the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite to play PUBG Mobile games from Tencent. With the advantage of a wider viewing area and action, as well as stereo sound with dual speakers, the experience is even more immersive.
The performance can be said to be quite good because even though it can’t be right-aligned, we can play quite smoothly, with a few parts that lag. However, because of the habit of controlling using a gyroscope when aiming, which cannot be done on this tablet, the experience is reduced.
So it’s safe if we then think that this tablet tends to be focused on processing data anywhere with maximum connection support and a portable size. Studying at home is one of them.
Large Battery, Long Lasting
In order to support the mobility and portability of this tablet, Samsung has embedded a large 5100 mAh battery. This size can support the use of the tablet for a day, even more. But because there is no high-speed charging technology, I recommend charging it when not using it at night.
With a power transfer of 15W, charging overnight will not be too dangerous.
Camera as a Complement
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite tablet also carries two cameras. One on the back as the main camera and one on the front as a selfie camera. Both are not so special but can be a lifesaver when needed.
Some activities such as photographing handwritten notes on white paper, or the need to conduct video conferences can be accommodated well.
The main camera of this tablet is a single 8MP lens with autofocus. While the selfie camera placed on the bezel on the short side is a 2MP camera. Once again, both are not tablet cameras that are capable of producing great photos, but they can be relied on when imaging features are needed.
Conclusion
As a small tablet, carrying an 8.7-inch screen and a relatively affordable price, it is undeniable that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite will certainly attract the attention of parents who need the right device for their children to study at home. If the need to study and watch is the only factor in buying a tablet, then this tablet is the right choice.
But if you need other functions, such as entertainment that utilizes the touch screen and color recognition via a digital pen, then this tablet does not provide it for you. At least we can use our fingers as input devices, or to play games for example, this tablet is less accommodating even though when we tried it, it could still run some of our favorite games.
