Samsung recently released the Galaxy M62 to the market, the latest smartphone to enter the Samsung M series smartphone line 2021. From the specifications and price offered, the Galaxy M62 is targeting the middle class segment. However, the Galaxy M62’s feature mix offers several advantages, including being in the high-end category.

One of the features we mean is related to performance, to note the chipset used by the Samsung Galaxy M62 is made by Samsung itself, namely the Exynos 9825. Samsung does have a diverse chipset product portfolio and is an advantage in itself when mixing features for its smartphones. The Exynos 9825 is a chipset that is also used by Samsung’s high-end smartphone, the Galaxy Note 10 Plus series. With a 7nm manufacturing process, this chipset is known to be energy efficient and has a strong GPU to support gaming graphics.

Another feature that differentiates it from mid-range smartphones on the market today is the 7000 mAh battery capacity. Samsung seems to understand very well that during this pandemic, more and more people are relying on smartphones to do various activities such as working, studying, or to support productivity such as creating content to playing games.

So can the Samsung Galaxy M62 be relied on as a daily driver? You will find out through our complete review of the Samsung Galaxy M62.

Samsung Galaxy M62 Reviews

Design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy M62 is similar to the Galaxy M51 at first glance. The dimensions of the body are also the same, the striking changes are seen in the square-shaped rear camera module and the striped pattern design on the back of the Galaxy M62. This similarity may be because both carry a 7000 mAh battery and the same 6.7-inch screen and also a punch hole or camera hole on the front of the screen.

The body does look thicker compared to smartphones that use 5000 mAh batteries. It is still reasonable because this large battery capacity also requires a lot of space. When compared to smartphones with 4500 mAh batteries such as the Galaxy A52, the thickness comparison is 9.5 mm vs 8.4 mm or only a difference of 1.1 mm.

Another similarity to the Galaxy M51 is the location of the fingerprint sensor which is integrated with the power button. Frankly, we like the location of this fingerprint sensor because it is simpler and does not interfere with aesthetics.

The speaker hole is at the bottom, aligned with the audio jack hole and the USB type-C charger hole. On the right side there is a power button and volume rocker and the simcard and microSD tray on the left. At the top you will only find a small hole and we suspect it is a speaker hole.

The body of the Galaxy M62 is coated with a smooth gradient dual tone color. There is a thin striped pattern that adds an elegant impression and the surface is also glossy. The colors on the unit we are holding are silver and blue, there are other color choices, namely silver-green and silver-black.

Don’t assume that the Galaxy M62 will be troublesome to hold, in our experience it is still very comfortable, even though it feels a little heavy. It might be worth considering adding a protective case because the surface of the Galaxy M62 is a bit slippery.

Performance

Smartphone performance is closely related to chipset performance and RAM size. The Samsung Galaxy M62 is very capable of being used for various purposes. Using the Exynos 9825 chipset, the performance of the Galaxy M62 can beat smartphones with the Snapdragon 7 series, the benchmark score with the AnTuTu version 9 application reaches 370 thousand.

The Exynos 9825 is a high-end chipset that is also used on the Galaxy Note 10 Pro. The Exynos 9825’s guts consist of an 8-core CPU with speeds of up to 2.73 GHz and uses the Mali G76-MP2 GPU, a high-end ARM-based graphics card.

The performance of the Galaxy M62 is also supported by 8 GB of RAM, which is more than enough to accompany your various activities. Playing PUBG, Mobile Legend and Genshin Impact games feels smooth without any problems. We hardly found any complaints about heat, playing games for half an hour did not experience overheating.

One thing that is no less important, the memory storage is very spacious, with 256 GB you no longer need a microSD to expand storage space. But if you are someone who likes to take video pictures and need additional memory, the Galaxy M62 also includes a microSD slot.

The screen quality of the Galaxy M62 with SuperAMOLED is very good. This type of screen is known to have higher contrast and is widely used on high-end smartphones. With a width of 6.7 inches and a resolution of 1080 & # 215; 2400 pixels, the Galaxy M62 screen is fairly sharp. This makes the video and game display look smoother.

The Samsung Galaxy M62 runs the Android 11 operating system which is wrapped in One UI, an interface made by Samsung. In terms of security, the Samsung Galaxy M62 does not only rely on the standard Android security system, but there is also an additional security system made by Samsung, namely Knox. Samsung is also known to be the fastest when it comes to OS updates, so your device can get security patches faster. This is very important considering the many malware threats in cyberspace.

The Samsung Galaxy M62 does not support 5G networks, but this certainly does not reduce your comfort. Why? Because the 5G network is not yet massive in Indonesia. As long as the 4G network is stable in your area, playing online games is more than enough, let alone just to access social media applications.

Camera quality

The Samsung Galaxy M62 has the same camera setup as the M51. There is a triple camera setup on the back with a 64MP main sensor and three other sensors, namely a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro sensor. Some references mention that the Galaxy M62’s main camera sensor uses the Sony IMX686.

Although it uses the same sensor as the M51, the advanced image processing on the M62 produces better images. Why? Because the Galaxy M62 uses a more powerful chipset which also affects image processing.

Photos taken in bright light conditions, for example outdoors during the day, the results are satisfying with sharp details with rich colors and a satisfying dynamic range. 64MP photos are also supported by HDR so that they do not sacrifice much image quality. However, for shooting at night we recommend using normal mode.

Night mode will help you get good pictures in dark environments. With this mode, you can reduce noise and get more light into the image.

For the ultrawide camera, the Galaxy M62 is arguably one of the best in its segment. The photos have a good dynamic range and the level of detail is also satisfying. The color profile of the ultrawide image is slightly different from the main sensor. In addition, this sensor has a 120-degree FOV and its distortion correction is also quite good.

The Samsung Galaxy M62 has a 5MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro sensor. Talking about portrait photos, the results are quite smooth. In addition, HDR helps keep the backlight under control. As for macro photos, it is good enough to get details from the photo object.

Now to the front camera, the 32MP sensor takes good photos under good lighting. Again, the HDR feature helps keep the backlight under control even in difficult situations and the results speak volumes especially in portrait photos. Overall, the M62 selfie camera is pretty cool.

The Samsung M62 can record videos up to 4k 30fps. The video quality is very good at 4K and even at 1080p. For image stabilization, the M62 relies on EIS which produces fairly stable videos.

Battery and Charging

Equipped with a 7000 mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy M62 can accompany you for more than a day for standard use.  What is clear, for game and photography enthusiasts, this 7000 mAh battery will be comfortable to use all day long. Our experience playing PUBG for 40 minutes, the battery used only decreased by about 6 percent.

This large battery is supported by 25W fast charging. To charge a 7000 mAh battery from zero to full only takes a little over 2 hours. This large battery is also used to charge other smartphone batteries. So if your friend runs out of battery, you can charge it with the M62. This feature is called Power Sharing.

Conclusion

With a large battery, the Samsung Galaxy M62 is suitable for those of you who have high mobility and for those of you who like to play games all day. The Exynos 9825 chipset is very appropriate for delivering high-end smartphone performance and a cool multimedia experience. No 5G network support is not an obstacle for now, and for those who need NFC, the Galaxy M62 is also available. (*)
