Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G Reviews
What innovations does Infinix bring to this device, how does it perform compared to competitors, and has Infinix managed to overcome some of the problems that existed in previous devices?
Let’s find the answers in the following Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G review.
Design
If in several previous Note series Infinix applied a design model that tended to be standard with color gradations that seemed ‘busy’, the Note 40 Pro+ 5G now comes with a simpler but elegant vegan leather option.
The Vintage Green color gives a leather-like look and feel.
This green color gives a luxurious impression that is not too flashy.
The gold accents on the large camera module, the Infinix logo, and the frame on the side of the device add an elegant impression.
In addition to the leather panel, the large camera module is also the main attraction. This part occupies about 30% of the surface of the device.
The camera module has two textures, namely a glossy surface for the two lenses, and a metal textured surface on the other side.
Next, moving on to the physical construction, where both sides of the device are curved, both the front and the back.
This makes the Note 40 Pro+ 5G feel thinner and lighter despite being 8.1mm thick and weighing around 190g.
The metal frame is quite sturdy, and is claimed to be quite durable. For extra protection, use the free case that comes in the box. It’s thick enough to protect the screen in case of a drop.
The Note 40 Pro+ 5G also has an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. Corning Gorilla Glass protection is also included, although the exact version is not mentioned.
Infinix also includes tempered glass in the package with the installation kit for added protection.
On the bottom, there’s the primary speaker, USB-C port, microphone, and SIM slot that can only accommodate two nano SIM cards. There’s no microSD card slot.
On the top, there’s the IR blaster, primary microphone, secondary speaker, and the “Sound by JBL” logo.
The left side is clean, while the right side has the volume rocker and lock/power button. These physical buttons feel tactile and satisfying to press, although they do wobble a bit.
Overall, the Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G is a stylish phone that’s comfortable to hold.
Although the build quality is not the best, for the price offered, this device is quite satisfactory.
Display and Audio Quality
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G features a 6.78-inch FHD+ curved AMOLED display with a resolution of 2436 x 1080 pixels, ~393ppi, 120Hz refresh rate, 1500Hz touch sampling, 2160Hz PWM dimming, TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification, 1300-nits peak brightness, 10-bit color, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
You can customize the display color style in the settings. There are options to set the display refresh rate to Auto-switch, 120Hz, or stick to 60Hz for longer battery life.
The display quality is quite satisfactory with colors appearing bright without being oversaturated and contrast is deep.
HD streaming on platforms like Netflix is possible, albeit without HDR playback. Sharpness is also adequate.
The display brightness is quite good, making it easy to use outdoors even under sunlight.
The stereo speakers tuned by JBL offer loud volume and a good balance between treble and bass.
Stereo separation is also clearly audible. Overall, the sound quality from these speakers is very good.
Performance
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G comes with an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor, built on a 6nm fabrication process.
It is equipped with IMG BXM8256 graphics, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage which unfortunately cannot be expanded using a microSD card.
Day-to-day performance is very responsive as opening and switching between apps runs smoothly, social media and web browsing are also smooth, and taking pictures is fast with little to no lag.
Editing photos and videos for Instagram and TikTok is also no problem.
For gaming, Genshin Impact is set to Low graphics by default, but it is still very smooth on Medium. Call of Duty Mobile runs smoothly on the highest settings.
PUBG Mobile is smooth on HD and High, leaving room to increase the graphics quality if desired.
Mobile Legends looks very sharp and smooth at the highest settings, while Asphalt 9 has no problems at High Quality.
However, like previous budget phones, the NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G still experiences a bit of lag in some battle royale games with super high graphics, even though it is set to ‘Balanced’ quality.
XOS Interface
One of the things that some users often dislike about Infinix phones is the software.
Now, with XOS 14 based on Android 14, the user experience has improved.
Infinix also promises two years of major Android upgrades and three years of security patches for the Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G.
One of the key features is Active Halo Lighting, an RGB light in the middle of the ring flash that lights up when receiving calls or notifications, when charging, playing certain games, listening to music, at startup, and using voice assistants.
Another interesting feature is the AI Wallpaper Generator. Simply type in the image you want to create, wait a few seconds, and voila.
The Always-On Display (AOD) screen is supported by a variety of wallpapers to choose from and customize.
The app drawer looks clean with all the apps arranged in alphabetical order, four recent apps on top, and an easily accessible search bar.
Infinix also introduced the Magic Ring feature which is similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island.
This feature displays animations around the punch-hole when showing charging status, face unlock, voice recording, and when making calls.
Other special features include floating windows for multitasking, Smart Panel to launch apps in floating mode, Smart Hub to copy and paste content between apps, XClone to manage different accounts in the same social media app, Kids Mode, and most importantly NFC support.
Camera
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G has a 108-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).
Unfortunately, there is no ultra-wide lens and instead there are two additional 2-megapixel sensors.
The 32-megapixel front camera is equipped with an LED flash that can be used as a fill-light.
The results of daytime photos from the main camera look good. Sharp details, consistent colors with natural conditions, and adequate saturation.
The dynamic range is quite wide and exposure is sometimes inconsistent, but not too disturbing.
Close-up shots are also very sharp, but you need to keep your hands steady because there is no macro mode.
In the Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G review, night photos also look good with sharp and detailed shots, even in very low light.
The selfie camera produces quite good images, sharp details and consistent colors, with a natural bokeh effect.
Face detection including the very edge when taking selfies with a bokeh effect is also quite good, no disturbing noise is visible.
Video recording during the day is also quite stable thanks to OIS, the video results are sharp with realistic colors and good dynamic range.
However, at night, the results are not so good, the video looks full of noise and sometimes compressed parts appear.
Battery
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery with 100W fast charging that can fully charge in 30 minutes.
The device also supports 20W MagKit wireless charging and wired and wireless Power Delivery (Power Delivery).
Although the battery is not the largest in its class, battery life is very good.
In everyday use, the device can last all day without needing to be recharged, even with quite intensive use.
Conclusion
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G is a significant improvement over its predecessor. Elegant design, high-quality screen, good performance, capable cameras, and long-lasting battery make it an attractive choice in the mid-range segment.
