Design and Screen

The OPPO Find N2 Flip is a foldable phone that folds vertically, aka flip. Borrowing the term flip notes or notebooks that are folded up and down (Flipped).

Of course, this phone is not the first on the market. However, it provides advantages and challenges for how to improve quality, reduce complaints and be better than existing products.

In terms of design, it looks quite dominant. Starting from its size that fits the grip of most cellphone users, both when folded and when opened, to the use of the latest hinge technology whose impact will spread to several other things.

The Flexion Hinge hinge, which is recognized as the best in its class, is used on this phone because of its small size but strong with lightweight steel material. OPPO uses this small size to place the screen on the relatively large cover.

This hinge will fold the screen into a water drop shape. This means it is not really bent. So that the crease marks are also disguised. And most importantly, the use of this folding technique will reduce the depth of the crease so that even though it is slightly visible, it is not so noticeable when our fingers pass over this crease.

At least we will feel this when we compare it directly with other flip phones that have been on the market first. The creases, both the crease marks on the screen and the ditch formed underneath will be fainter or not felt/visible on the OPPO Find N2 Flip.

When the phone is closed, we will be holding a compact design phone, almost 1:1, with a cover that shows an external screen aka a 3.26-inch cover screen with a ratio of 17:9. Alias stands extending downwards, as if like a reduced main screen of the phone.

OPPO intelligently utilizes the existence of this external screen for a number of activities that are widely used by people so that they can interact with their favorite features without having to frequently unfold the phone.

This means it is wide enough to interact, and contains important information on the same screen.

We tried to use this phone as extreme as possible. For example, opening the phone screen by throwing the top screen, and closing it again in the same way repeatedly. However, we did not feel any decrease in quality in the hinge section of this phone.

We also tried the grip strength of the two screens when closed by inserting a brochure in the middle of the folding screen, then hanging the phone with the brochure paper as a handle. It was proven that the phone did not fall, unless the paper did have a slippery surface.

All buttons are placed on the right side of the phone, or on the side of the main camera lens. There are volume and power buttons that also function as fingerprint sensors.

The right decision, even though this phone carries an AMOLED screen that allows the fingerprint sensor to be placed under the screen, its presence at the current point will make it easier for us to access the external screen, so it remains safe.

While on the back fold we will only find the words OPPO and Hasselblad.

When this phone is opened vertically, we will find a main screen area, which stretches diagonally with a 6.8-inch ratio with a 21:9 ratio. It is quite high, so it might be a bit difficult to reach the top of the screen with one hand.

This screen has an LTPO AMOLED panel. The type of AMOLED screen with a dynamic refresh rate reduces unnecessary power usage. The maximum screen of the Find N2 Flip supports a high refresh rate of 120Hz.

We will discuss more about this screen panel in the upcoming Techno column.

Furthermore, on this main screen there is a selfie camera hole with a punch hole design at the top center.

Software and User Interface

OPPO Find N2 Flip carries ColorOS 13 based on Android 13. In terms of appearance to the features provided, it is almost the same as the non-folding Oppo Flagship version. It’s just that specifically for this phone there are a number of additions related to external screen widgets.

A number of features such as the music controller, were not present from the beginning when we held this product. The widget only appeared after a software upgrade or OS update. This means that OPPO can easily add new features for external screen needs, and this is good news for users in the future.

We can set and use a number of features when the phone is closed using the widgets. There is a camera requirement, which makes the external screen a viewfinder for taking selfies using the main camera, there is a music controller that can display album art perfectly and control music playback with the same screen, even display WhatsApp messages like on the main screen. It’s just that we can’t type a reply, except with quick reply and voice message.

In addition, we can access the control panel via the external screen. So we can set up WiFi, Bluetooth and other connections, without having to open the folding screen.

OPPO Find N2 Flip Chipset and Memory

As a Flagship phone, the OPPO Find N2 Flip is equipped with a capable chipset. Namely Mediatek Dimensity 9000+. Flagship chipset with 4nm fabrication that carries a CPU with 3 types of cores.

Carrying 8 CPU cores, the Dimensity 9000+ includes a new ARM Cortex-X2 core with a speed of 3.2 GHz, accompanied by 3 Cortex-A710 cores and the remaining 4 Cortex-A510 cores, each with a clock speed of 2.85 GHz and 1.8 GHz.

While the GPU carried is ARM’s creation, namely the Mali G710 MC10. It is a GPU that is ready to run games on premium phones.

The product we reviewed has 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. With RAM expansion support up to an additional 8GB.

But what’s interesting about this phone is that it also has an AI processor made by OPPO, namely Marisilicon X. Responsible for processing photos taken through this phone so that it can produce low light photos and videos even in 4K resolution better and faster.

Battery and Charging

One key factor brought by the OPPO Find N2 Flip as a foldable phone that can improve previous phones is on the battery side. This phone carries a 4300 mAh battery, capable of lasting all day thanks to the power efficiency carried out by the chipset and OS.

Meanwhile, to recharge, this phone’s battery has adopted the SuperVOOC ecosystem with a maximum power that can be distributed at 44W.

This is also the answer to why there is no wireless charging on this phone. Because the adopted charging ecosystem is a charging that prioritizes speed and safety.

OPPO Find N2 Flip Camera Review

In addition to carrying a special AI photography chipset, Marisilicon X, OPPO Find N2 Flip also carries the latest Flagship camera sensor and collaboration software developed with Hasselblad.

For photography lovers, they will definitely appreciate these features. The collaboration between OPPO and Hasselblad aims to produce a formula so that photos can be captured more brilliantly and sharply. And with the help of Marisilicon X, photos in low light conditions can be captured beautifully with deeper black levels.

The main camera of OPPO Find N2 Flip is placed on the top cover. Or when the phone is closed it will be on the cover. Consisting of two lenses, namely the main 50MP with Sony IMX890 sensor, and 8MP ultrawide with IMX355 sensor.

Meanwhile, for the selfie camera, it is a typical OPPO autofocus selfie camera with an IMX709 sensor and a 21mm equivalent lens.

We can record videos up to 4K at 30fps. Unfortunately, we didn’t find any stabilizer. Instead, we can change the way we record videos by bending the top screen 90 degrees so that it resembles a camcorder.

Where we can take pictures more steadily, and there are other advantages, because the cellphone’s mic will point to us (the recorder) so it is suitable for making vlogs.

Conclusion

The OPPO Find N2 Flip may not be the first flip phone on the market, but it has proven to bring a number of better features. At least it is right on target and appropriate to suit the target market.

Better hinges, more accommodating external screens, more tested batteries and fast charging, durability, and adequate after-sales service are just a few of the benefits we can get.
