OPPO Find N3 Flip Reviews: 3 Main Moves to Face Competition
Since the presence of the first flip phone globally in early 2023 (OPPO Find N2 Flip), OPPO has brought the spirit of “giving more” than just a phone with a foldable screen. This can be seen from the use of more up- to-date hinges , batteries and charging that are still flagship , cover screen designs to camera capabilities that are still amazing even though they are wrapped in a design that should be very limited.
With the same spirit, OPPO then released the Find N3 Flip. “Patching” a number of things that were felt could still be improved in the previous series, as well as becoming an important feature or main weapon, in facing the competition in the Flip phone market which is quite fierce.
In the market we can find a competitor that is head to head with the Find N3 Flip from Samsung , namely the Galaxy Z Flip5. This product is also here to improve the previous Z Flip series, by inserting a wide screen trend on the outside of the fold as we can also find on several other foldable phones that have not been released in Indonesia.
In terms of appearance alone, the fundamental difference between the two Flip products on the Indonesian market lies in the size of the outer screen or cover screen and the chipset that accompanies these two products.
But based on a number of experiments we conducted, we found that there are several things that cannot be concluded just by discussing specifications alone.
There are at least 3 interesting things to discuss. We will let you decide whether these features can be the differentiator of OPPO Find N3 Flip in the Flip phone market that is currently attracting attention.
Mini Apps as a Gateway to Interaction with Cover Screen
It has been widely discussed in our previous tips ( Tips ), the presence of Mini Apps on Find N3 Flip allows for a more fluid and unlimited flow of phone usage. Where we can utilize the cover screen much better than the previous series, through the presence of widgets and mini applications that appear in full like on the main screen.
In other words, although the Find N3 Flip cover screen still uses the same approach as the Find N2 Flip, and is relatively not much larger than the Z Flip5 cover screen, the experience it provides can still compete closely, and may even meet user preferences.
It is undeniable that cosmetically, the wide cover screen does look promising. Able to display images larger and clearer. Giving the user’s fingers the freedom to control the screen.
However, the Find N3 Flip’s cover screen with a 17:9 ratio will remind us of most mobile phone (main) screens. Namely, it can display portrait/perpendicular, or landscape/horizontal to display different content. It also supports gestures like the main screen.
In comparison, the Z Flip 5’s wide Cover Screen forms a non-symmetrical area, but tends to display content horizontally. This is worth noting because it will affect when displaying applications via the cover screen of both phones.
Back to mini apps. This feature was not in the previous Find N Flip series. So we are sure that this feature can be a differentiator and dare to be raised in this Feature Duel because it felt useful during our review.
With Mini Apps, we can interact with a number of applications directly from the cover screen, so we no longer need to open the folded main screen. For example, when the situation is hectic in a vehicle, either private or public, or when we can only use the phone with one hand.
With a tall screen, mini apps will appear like they are on the main screen. Almost nothing is cut off. It’s just that it is indeed smaller. And makes it difficult for those with poor eyesight. All the information is displayed on the screen. Or at least more information is displayed than when we use the horizontal cover screen of the Z Flip5.
But on the other hand, even though the information displayed is much more limited, we can be more comfortable replying to chats on a horizontal screen. Because the virtual keyboard buttons will appear larger. Although it must sacrifice the chat display which is only 1, 2 rows above it.
OPPO Labs provides almost 80 mini applications that can be utilized by Find N3 Flip users. And according to trusted sources at OPPO, this will continue to grow along with user feedback.
Some important applications such as Grab, Gojek, OVO and others are already supported by Mini Apps and run without problems. And importantly, it can display more information.
On the other hand, Z Flip5 takes two approaches, namely preparing applications that can be displayed on the cover screen in-house through their lab. And also using an additional app in the form of the Good Lock application. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, but both display it on a horizontal cover screen.
When showing portrait videos such as TikTok or Youtube Shorts, the Find N3 Flip cover screen can be better because it can optimize the screen area. While on the Z Flip5 it will appear smaller in the middle of the screen area with a fairly significant black background.
When opening landscape videos such as YouTube or Netflix videos, both can be equally good. It’s just that on the Find N3 Flip we have to make an effort to rotate the phone 90 degrees.
As a Maps viewer, Find N3 Flip is still better because we can anticipate turn by turn because it is displayed completely like on a normal cellphone screen. While on the Z Flip5 there are many areas that are cut off, especially at the top and bottom, which are crucial.
Telephoto Portrait
One thing that OPPO Find N3 Flip strives for is to still provide flagship photography facilities, even in a relatively limited design. Foldable phones themselves do not have the same space as regular phone designs. Coupled with the presence of a wide Cover screen, making the space for the camera even smaller.
Camera Review
Interestingly, the Find N3 Flip is able to overcome this limitation by bringing a camera that is significantly improved compared to the previous Find N Flip series.
Still using the co-engineered collaboration with Hasselblad, this time the Find N3 Flip provides a capable camera for other needs, such as ultrawide and telephoto. Especially for telephoto, this is a step that has been predicted to be inline with the direction of OPPO’s mobile photography development, namely Telephoto portrait.
With this 2x telephoto camera with a focal length equivalent to 47mm, we can produce beautiful telephoto portrait photos through portrait mode. In addition, we can take advantage of the 5X zoom photo capability with optical quality.
As of this writing, the Find N3 Flip’s camera capabilities are still the best among flip phones on the market.
More Invisible Folds
Since the previous Find N Flip series, the hinge used by OPPO has been able to provide a dramatic effect on the folded screen. It must be admitted that this does not mean that the folds can be completely invisible. But after several direct comparisons with other flip products, we feel that the folds on the main screen of the Find N3 Flip are not as striking as the comparison products.
We can call it “slicker” and tends to have no ditch or downward curve in the fold area. So when playing games and your hand swipes over this part, it will be less noticeable than other flip products.
Other Features
In addition to the 3 things above, there are actually several things we need to mention. Both those that are still related to the 3 features we mentioned above, as well as other features that could be factors in choosing.
For example, when using the cover screen as a viewfinder in FlexCam mode. Because the Find N3 Flip cover screen tends to resemble the main screen, all camera UI will still look good on the viewfinder screen. We won’t lose anything. This is different from the approach taken by the Z Flip5.
Next on the screen brightness side, the Z Flip5 has a higher screen brightness for both the main screen and the cover screen. So it looks more striking and tempting. However, the OPPO Find N3 Flip takes a different approach. The Find N3 Flip screen adopts polarized-free technology or COE (color on encapsulation) where we can still comfortably use the phone under the hot sun while wearing sunglasses. For example, when on vacation on the beach, maybe.
