Retro Design with Two Prominent Boba
Before anyone protests, let us explain first, that the two boba cameras on the back of the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G do not mean that this phone only carries 2 cameras on the back. The Reno8 Z carries 3 cameras on the back. It’s just that OPPO puts it in a unique design. Where two large circles are arranged side by side above and below, while another camera is placed on the left side, right opposite the LED flash.
Currently, this design can only be found in two OPPO products. Both are Reno products and both carry the letter Z behind the name of the phone.
But it wouldn’t be OPPO if it didn’t guarantee the durability of its phones. Including the Reno8 Z 5G. OPPO stated that even though this product is designed to be very thin, with a square bezel, aka carrying a classic retro design, this phone has gone through extreme testing. Both against extreme temperature conditions, and hard impacts.
The back cover is made of scratch-resistant material, and is also not easily dirty due to the user’s fingerprints. Colored in several layers so that it displays glitter and cool gradient colors, especially in the Dawnlight Gold color variant.
For audio lovers who still rely on wired headsets, including those who need a 3.5mm audio jack to record audio as part of the content they create, for example, they can still rely on this phone. Without the need for an adapter, this phone still provides a 3.5mm audio port.
6.4 Inch AMOLED Screen
As a member of the OPPO Reno8 series, this phone has also brought a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen. Of course, it is capable of displaying colors more brilliantly with a high contrast level. Becoming the standard for OPPO’s mid-range to high-end phones. But unfortunately, on this Reno8 Z, the screen refresh is still at the standard number, which is 60Hz.
Actually, it doesn’t have much of an effect, considering that the frame rate of a number of games is still a maximum of 60Hz, even that makes the hardware out of breath. But for those who like to open social media, and browse the content in it, they might miss the higher refresh rate.
But that doesn’t mean the Reno8 Z screen doesn’t support HDR displays. For those of you who like to watch videos that support the HDR 10 display format and HLG standards, this cellphone screen can display them well.
The selfie camera is placed in a punch hole in the upper left corner of the screen, so it doesn’t interfere when playing games, or watching exciting movies in one full screen.
ColorOS 12.1 and Coming Soon 13
It must be admitted, one of the factors in the success of OPPO phones is their software system, aka ColorOS, which is always being improved. Like on the Reno8 Z 5G, when you just activate it, you can already get the ColorOS 12.1 experience which is the most up to date for an OS based on Android 12.
Many things have been fixed in this version. In addition, of course, there are many built-in features that we have known since previous products such as Games, RAM Expansion, Super Power Saving mode on the battery and so on.
And the interesting news is that OPPO will soon update the Reno8 Z 5G to ColorOS 13 in the near future. At least the Beta version will be available first since December 2022. It is a priority because this phone is a new phone in the Reno8 series.
Hardware Performance
The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is powered by a chipset made by Qualcomm, namely the Snapdragon 695 5G. A relatively new upper-middle class chipset adopted by several phones in 2022. Carrying 6nm fabrication so it can be said to be efficient in power usage, and is able to load more functions into this chipset.
In addition to the 8-core CPU with 2 clusters of 6 vs 2 cores, this chipset also carries the Adreno 619 GPU, triple ISP for better camera processing, 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.
Everyone knows how hot it gets when a chipset with this promising performance meets an AMOLED screen. For that, OPPO also embedded 6 layers of cooling system that keep the phone’s temperature cool even when used extremely, including for gaming.
Playing games, editing videos, editing photos, socializing on media and so on can be done without any obstacles on this phone. Although not the highest variant, we can rely on it to create interesting content.
From the benchmark results, it can be seen that the Reno8 Z 5G engine is a standard mid-range phone engine and that’s not bad at all.
Battery with SuperVOOC 33W
In addition to carrying a chipset that uses power efficiently, power saving features such as Super Power Saving Mode, this phone also embeds a large capacity 4500 mAh battery. Standard battery capacity with SuperVOOC charging technology.
Meanwhile, for SuperVOOC charging, this phone uses 33W power, which allows us to charge the phone from zero to 100% in a speed of only about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Camera Remains Capable
The first introduction of the Reno8 Series often made us impatient to experience the highest variant product, the Reno8 Pro 5G. Because of the presence of an additional NPU and all the flagship things that are embedded in it. But in fact, it’s not just the Reno8 Pro 5G that steals our attention. At least on the camera side. The Reno8 Z 5G is also able to speak volumes.
Without carrying a SuperWide lens, the Reno8 Z 5G’s rear camera only consists of 1 64MP main camera with an Omnivision sensor, then there is a 2MP lens for Depth and 2MP for Macro.
While for the front camera there is a 16MP lens with a Sony IMX471 sensor.
Video recording is still at the current favorite resolution, which is 1080p with a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.
As usual, the support of AI technology from ColorOS 12, as well as the presence of EIS to the support of the best ISP from Qualcomm, have a positive effect on the photos and videos produced. Both in terms of coloring, photo sharpness to the level of noise which is greatly reduced.
