2022/2023 Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Reviews

Although it is the most standard model of the Redmi Note 12 Series variant, this smartphone is claimed to bring flagship-class specifications and user experience that make it a “Unlimited Champion”.

So, what about the true performance of the Redmi Note 12? Check out the full review below!.

Premium Design

The exterior still seems to be one of the main attractions for consumers who want to buy a smartphone. It is only natural that most vendors, including Xiaomi, conduct special research related to this sector.

Not only does it present affordable devices, Xiaomi also offers stylish smartphones that are able to highlight the character of its users through trendy designs. Redmi Note 12 appears with a design that looks stiff. Each corner is made firm, with ‘sharp’ edges and a flat frame.

The physical construction is similar to the Xiaomi 12 Lite which looks boxy, but still leaves an elegant impression.

Like most mid-to-low smartphones, the Redmi Note 12 has a plastic frame combined with a polycarbonate body. The back has a matte texture, which is coated with a special layer that seems to present a glass effect. This is what makes the exterior of this smartphone look ‘luxurious’ and not cheap.

The plus point is, this back side does not easily leave smudges or fingerprints, even if held for a fairly long time.

The back panel, precisely in the lower left corner, has a fairly firm ‘Redmi’ logo and at the top there is a transparent box-shaped camera module like glass with a protruding surface.

This camera module contains three lenses with one LED flash arranged in a fairly unique structure.

The front of the device has a large screen with AMOLED technology. Interestingly, the Redmi Note 12 is IP53 certified, which means it is resistant to dust and splashes of water.

Moving to the edge of the body. There is a volume button on the right, right above the fingerprint sensor panel which also functions as a power button. While on the left is the SIM card compartment, which contains two operator SIM card trays and one tray for an additional microSD memory card.

At the bottom, you will find a USB-C charger port, microphone and loudspeaker. While at the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, special sensor and IR blaster.

In addition to having a cool design, the Redmi Note 12 also has a slim and lightweight body. Based on technical data, this smartphone has dimensions of 165.66×75.96×7.85 mm with a weight of around 183.5 grams.

Oh yes, for information, the Redmi Note 12 itself comes with three trendy color choices, namely Onyx Gray, Mint Green, Ice Blue.

120Hz AMOLED screen

This sector is one of the main advantages of the Redmi Note 12. This smartphone features a large screen section with a 6.67-inch AMOLED type. The screen resolution itself is FHD+ (2400×1080) which is predicted to be able to display content very clearly, sharply and realistically.

The screen panel design is standard for today’s mid-end smartphones with a front camera hole area at the top (punch hole). Each side of the screen is decorated with a thin bezel, only the bottom (chin) looks like it has a fairly thick bezel.

The advantage of this smartphone screen is the support for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which is certainly highly anticipated by mobile gamers. Unfortunately, the display settings do not support the automatic refresh rate setting option. Only 120Hz or 60Hz options are available.

When traced through a brief test, almost all standard device operations display the 120Hz setting. Only when playing videos from the gallery does the refresh rate setting appear at 60Hz.

Xiaomi claims that the Redmi Note 12 screen supports brightness levels of up to 1200 nits. This allows the device to be used directly under sunlight without reducing the quality of the screen display.

One thing to note, even though it has a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, in fact, when used, the process often feels slow.

For those who like to personalize the screen display, Xiaomi presents complete settings ranging from widgets, wallpapers to themes. This is also thanks to the support of the MIUI 14 interface based on Android 13, which offers a User Interface that is certainly very easy to navigate and use by users.

Almost left behind, the Redmi Note 12 screen has also been supported by Netflix HD certification, for the quality of film viewing that will certainly spoil the eyes. Moreover, the screen of this device is also equipped with SGS Eye Care and also a reading mode.

Best-in-Class 50MP Camera

As previously mentioned, this smartphone has a camera module that protrudes slightly from the body. There is a triple camera lens setup consisting of a 50MP main camera paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens. For those who like selfies and video calls, there is a 13MP front camera.

Regarding quality, in conditions of abundant lighting, there are no problems at all. The Redmi Note 12 camera is capable of producing colorful, bright shots that are truly worthy of being shared via social media. The photo details are really sharp with minimal distortion. Even when the image is enlarged, it still shows good detail, without any loss of quality.

To get these qualified shot details, you can set the camera mode to the 50MP option in the camera interface settings.

The ultra-wide lens is also still able to work optimally. Those of you who like landscape to cityscape photos will probably like the Redmi Note 12 camera. So what about the macro lens? In general, the results of this smartphone’s macro shots are still quite proud of. However, in certain conditions the results of the shots are still decorated with quite disturbing noise.

Other camera mode options that are also included in the Redmi Note 12 camera interface include Pro, Portrait, Night, Panorama, Time-lapse, Slow motion and documents.

For the quality of the selfie camera, there seems to be no need to doubt it, especially since Xiaomi has included artificial intelligence (AI) to produce more natural and natural selfies.

The video recording capability for both the rear and front cameras already supports full HD 1080 @ 30fps format with standard quality without OIS support. The recording quality is still safe for making TikToker-style dancing videos.

Performance

This sector is usually the most awaited by Mifans. As Xiaomi always touts, even though it is priced at an affordable price, the performance of its products is always ‘champion’. This is also what is carried by the Redmi Note 12.

Equipped with Snapdragon 685, which is the latest generation chipset made by Qualcomm for the middle segment, the Redmi Note 12 is able to accelerate quickly. All functions and applications can be run smoothly without lag.

The smooth multitasking capability on this smartphone is also inseparable from the support of 8GB RAM, which is equipped with a Memory extension feature of up to 5GB capacity. In total, the Redmi Note 12 tested by tabloidpulsa.id has a RAM capacity of 13GB. This memory extension feature utilizes some of the unused internal storage capacity.

For information, the internal storage of the UFS2.2 type owned by the Redmi Note 12 itself has a capacity of 128GB, which can still be expanded using an additional microSD memory card as backup storage space with a maximum capacity of up to 1TB.

So, for those who like to store document files, photos, videos and other important data, there is no need to be afraid of running out of memory.

So what about the gaming performance? This is always a routine question for mobile gamers besides of course screen quality.

Through the hardware collaboration that has been explained previously, it seems that there is no need for mobile gamers to hesitate not to glance at the Redmi Note 12. The reason is, almost all favorite mobile games such as Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, Asphalt 9, AoV even Genshin Impact and Apex Legends can be executed well and smoothly.

The experience of playing these games does not show disturbing frame drops. In fact, for some games the graphic settings can be stuck at the optimal level. It’s just that for settings at this maximum level the device will experience a slight spike in heat in its body. But it’s still relatively normal.

For those who are still curious about the performance of this smartphone, you can also see the benchmark results using several applications as shown below:

Oh yes, one more thing that is no less important, it turns out that the Redmi Note 12 is equipped with NFC. So, for Mifans who usually use e-money cards for transactions, you can use this technology to check your e-money balance.

5000mAh Battery + 33W Fast Charging

Similar to the smartphone line that has recently been launched on the market, the Redmi Note 12 is also supported by a large capacity battery, namely 5000mAh.

For standard use such as browsing the web, receiving phone calls, watching videos, listening to music, accessing social media, and reading novels, this smartphone battery can last up to a full day.

During testing, the battery of this device can be used to play online games nonstop for up to 8 hours. You can also watch streaming videos for more than 20 hours, make phone calls for approximately 30 hours.

The plus point, the Redmi Note 12 is supported by 33W fast charging capabilities. And in the sales package, there is a 33W charger adapter, which can charge from 0% to 10% in just about 62 minutes.
